Kerjasama Honda dengan Repsol kali pertama terjadi pada musim 1995. Ketika itu, legenda balap asal Australia, Michael Doohan, berhasil merebut gelar juara dunia kelas 500cc untuk kali kedua.
Kini, setelah dua dekade, kerjasama Honda dengan Repsol masih terjalin dengan kuat. Total, Repsol Honda sudah meraih 11 gelar juara dunia kelas primer Grand Prix, 124 kemenangan dan 338 podium. Marquez menjadi juara dunia MotoGP teranyar yang memperkuat Repsol Honda.
"Suatu kebanggaan buat saya bisa menjadi bagian dari Repsol Honda, dan menjadi bagian dari tim juara. Bergabung dengan tim ini adalah impian saya. Semua pembalap idola saya berasal dari Repsol Honda. Saya menikmati setiap hari di tim ini," ujar Marquez seperti dilansir situs resmi MotoGP.
Pada acara perayaan yang digelar di Campus Repsol, Madrid, diperlihatkan motor-motor yang pernah digunakan Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden dan Casey Stoner saat menjadi juara dunia bersama Repsol Honda.
"Jika berbicara tentang Repsol Honda, maka Anda membicarakan salah satu tim tersukses. Kerjasama Honda dengan Repsol adalah sesuatu yang jarang Anda lihat di ajang MotoGP," tegas Pedrosa.
Untuk MotoGP 2014, Repsol Honda kembali diunggulkan untuk meraih gelar juara dunia kelas primer Grand Prix kali ke-12 melalui Marquez. Juara dunia MotoGP 2013 itu menjadi yang tercepat di tiga hari tes di Sirkuit Sepang, Malaysia, 4-6 Februari 2014.
